Setelah sukses menggelar Poetry Performing Arts “Urat Jagat/Veins of Universe” di empat kota besar di Indonesia (Bandung-Jakarta-Serang-Bali) Februari lalu, Mainteater Bandung-Melbourne kembali akan pentas di acara Mapping Melbourne Festival 2015, Australia.

Kali ini mereka mengangkat tajuk “Microcosm”, sebuah wacana ihwal kesakitan dan kemarahan alam, ratapan atas kerusakan lingkungan, keserakahan, perubahan sosial dan konsumerisme. Pertunjukan kolaborasi lintas negara ini akan digelar pada 5 Desember 2015 di State Library Victoria, 328 Swanston St, Melbourne, VIC 3000 Australia.

Seniman muda berbakat, Heliana Sinaga, dan aktor senior, Wawan Sofwan, dari Mainteater Bandung akan berkolaborasi dengan seniman Australia, di antaranya: Mal Webb -musisi eksperimental-, Jodee Mundy -seniman teater multitalenta-, Bec Etchel -penata lampu-, dan Sandra Fiona Long – sutradara pertunjukan berbasis musik dan multibahasa.

Selama 18 tahun, Mainteater Bandung dan Mainteater Melbourne telah bekolaborasi sebagai bentuk pertukaran budaya untuk saling mengenal serta menyampaikan isu-isu lokal menjadi isu universal. Kolaborasi di antara mereka telah mendapatkan apresiasi dari dunia internasional dengan meraih penghargaan “Innovation of Form” dari Melbourne Fringe dan nominasi Greenroom untuk kategori “Innovative New Form” dalam pertunjukan kolaborasi bertajuk “Happy 1000…1000 Bahagia” pada tahun 2000.

“Microcosm”, merupakan alih wahana sajak-sajak Godi Suwarna ke dalam panggung lewat lintas disiplin seni; teater, tari, musik, dan multimedia. Imaji-imaji dalam sajak Godi akan ditampilkan dengan pembacaan yang intim; Intensitas suara, bunyi dan gambar, akan diolah sedemikian rupa menjadi bahasa yang lebih sublim.
Godi Suwarna, merupakan seniman kontemporer dari Indonesia yang berakar tradisi kuat. Ia sangat peka menangkap realitas sosial yang semakin berubah cepat dan menuangkannya ke dalam sajak dengan imajinasi yang liar, kritis bahkan penuh ironi.

This Saturday, 3pm-5pm at State Library Victoria, FREE, Bandung based performing artists Wawan Sofwan and Heliana Sinaga will join Jodee Mundy and Sandra Fiona Long in performance collective Mainteater to bring to life some of the powerful poems from Godi’s epic work Urat Jagat (Veins of the Universe) in an intimate chorus of voice, sound and image.

Mainteater has been collaborating across Australia for 18 years and explore environmental destruction, greed, displacement and consumerism. Be prepared for a short, intense and intimate performance. Microcosm features text by Godi Suwarna; direction by Sandra Fiona Long; and will be performed by Heliana Sinaga, Wawan Sofwan and Jodee Mundy, with sound by Mal Webb

Godi Suwarna is recognized as a reformer of contemporary literature in Indonesia, championing indigenous languages for their superior poetic potential and is a multiple award winning writer in his mother tongue Sundanese.

Sandra Fiona Long works with performance, installation, multilingual and music based performance. Her work sees her collaborating across communities, cultures, abilities and generations alongside working with some of Australia and Indonesia’s most respected theatre artists. She is a founding member of Mainteater with Bandung based Wawan Sofwan. In 2015 she toured Urat Jagat (Veins of the Universe) with Mainteater in Indonesia, created and performed solo work Pancake Opus 100 at La Mama, directed Dan Goronszy’s Destination Home In the Melbourne Fringe and a new work Birdcage Thursdays in the Big West Festival. www.hadesfading.com

Microcosm is based on the full length Urat Jagat (Veins of the Universe) which toured in Indonesia February 2015, which was supported by Kompas Gramedia, Bentara Budaya Bali dan Jakarta, Arts Victoria, Selasar Sunaryo, The Australian Government through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, The Australian Indonesian Institute.

Mapping Melbourne 2015, a series of multi-artform events from 2-5 December 2015 across the heart of Melbourne, celebrates independent contemporary artists on the theme of Asia. 13 venues across the City of Melbourne including Federation Square, State Library of Victoria and the Immigration Museum host exhibitions, theatre, music, dance, multi-media, workshops and live art interactions for this Festival. It features over 100 artists from across Australia, China, Indonesia, South Korea, Malaysia, India, Japan, Thailand, Cambodia, East Timor, Singapore, Philippines and Vietnam for this extraordinary four day showcase. Mapping Melbourne 2015 is supported by the City of Melbourne, Creative Victoria, Australia Council for the Arts, Australia Korea Foundation, KABO Lawyers and PBS FM.
