Sahlan Mujtaba (Bahuy)

Lahir di Cianjur, Jawa Barat, 12 Agustus 1985. Lulusan jurusan Bahasa dan Sastra Indonesia Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI). Skripsi yang dibuatnya berkaitan dengan drama, yaitu mengkaji drama “Republik Reptil” karya Radhar Panca Dahana dengan analisis semiotik. Saat ini sedang menempuh pendidikan Program Pascasarjana Jurusan Susastra peminatan Kajian Tradisi Lisan, Fakultas Ilmu Budaya, Universitas Indonesia.

Dunia teater digelutinya sejak tahun 2005 di Teater Lakon Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), di sana sempat menjadi Ketua Bidang Pengembangan Sumber Daya Manusia dan Ketua Bidang Seni Pertunjukan. Saat ini menjabat Direktur Umum Mainteater Bandung.

Bersama Teater Lakon, telah meraih beberapa penghargaan teater di tingkat nasional. Di antaranya: meraih sutradara terbaik dalam Festival Teater Mahasiswa Nasional ke-4 di Jakarta, Indonesia (2009). Meraih juara 3 Festival Drama Bahasa Sunda (2010). Meraih sutradara terbaik dalam Festival Monolog Mahasiswa Nasional ke-2 di Samarinda (2011). Meraih sutradara terbaik Festival Drama Bahasa Sunda (2013).

Mulai tahun 2011 aktif sebagai pengajar teater di SMA 1 Lembang. Mendampingi SMA 1 Lembang meraih juara 2 Festival Drama Bahasa Sunda (2012), juara 1 Festival Drama Bahasa Sunda Pelajar (2013), dan juara 1 Festival Lomba Seni Siswa Nasional (2013).

Saat ini aktif memberikan workshop teater di sekolah dan kampus di Jawa Barat. Selain itu, aktif menulis artikel tentang teater dan kritik pertunjukan teater. Tahun 2012, menulis naskah drama berjudul “Etalase Tubuh”. Sebuah drama yang bercerita tentang realitas masyarakat konsumtif, fashion, gaya hidup, spiritualitas hingga mitos dan dongeng.

Sejak tahun 2011 menjadi fasilitator dan inisiator dalam beberapa proyek teater pemberdayaan. Proyek yang sudah dilakukan, antara lain: teater pemberdayaan anak-anak jalanan di kota Bandung (2011, 2012, 2013) dan teater pemberdayaan masyarakat marginal di Bone, Sulawesi Selatan (2013-2014). Kegiatan terakhir yang diikuti terkait teater pemberdayaan: Workshop Etika dan Estetika Teater Pemberdayaan (Maret 2015).

Selain fokus di teater pemberdayaan. Saat ini sedang menempuh studi menjadi peneliti dan pelestari kesenian tradisi lisan. Kegiatan terakhir yang diikuti adalah workshop Peningkatan Kompetensi Teknis Pelestari Tradisi Lisan yang diadakan oleh Asosiasi Tradisi Lisan (April 2015).

Di bidang teater sudah banyak terlibat dalam produksi teater, baik sebagai aktor dan sutradara. Terlibat produksi teater sebagai aktor dalam naskah, diantaranya: Kereta Kencana (Eugeune Ionesco), Tapas Birahi, Maunya Macam-macam (Moliere), Maaf Maaf Maaf (N.Riantiarno), Orang Kasar (Anton Chekov), Orkes Madun 2 atawa Umang-umang (Arifin C.Noer), Electronik City (Falk Richter), Unter Eis (Falk Richter), Ladang Perminus (Ramadhan KH), Sandekala (Godi Suwarna), Hamster Makan Bulan dan Sikat Sikut Sakit (Yusef Muldiyana), Urat Jagat/Veins of the Universe, dll.

Karya-karya yang disutradarai, antara lain: 88,08 FM (Ridwan Saidi), Sadrah (Nunu Nazaruddin), Kiamat atawa Dunia Sebentar Lagi Akan Hancur (Jura Soyfer), Satru (Nunu Nazaruddin), Monolog Tukang Cuci (Mardi Luhung), dan Nagri Katumbiri (Nunu Nazaruddin), Monolog Trik (Putu Wijaya), Tembang Tanah Karuhun (Hadi AKS), Kembali/Tilbakekomstene (Fredrik Brattberg), Carita Pole Ri Ceddi Wanua/Dongeng dari Sebuah Teluk (Yopi Setia Umbara), BER(C)I(N)TA (Zulfa Nasrulloh), Kabar Buruk (Roby Aji) dan Konspirasi.

He was born in Cianjur, West Java, Indonesia on August 12, 1985. He was graduated from Indonesia University of Education majoring in Indonesian Literature. He was analyzing a text play written by Radhar Panca Dahana entitled “Republik Reptil” using semiotics as his instrument in his final paper. Now, he is listed as one of the students in post-graduate program, Faculty of Humanities in University of Indonesia, majoring in Literature Master Program with specialty in The Study of Oral Tradition.

In 2005, he involved in theatre since he joint Lakon Theatre Students’ Organization in Indonesia University of Education. He was then managed to be the Head of Human Resources Department and Head of Performances Bureau consecutively. Today, he is the Executive Director in Mainteater Bandung.

With Lakon Theatre, he was awarded several national awards in theatre, such as the 1st place as Best Director in National Students Theatre Festival IV in Jakarta (2009), 3rd place as Best Director in Sundanese Drama Festival in Bandung (2010), 1st place as Best Director in The 2nd National Students Monologue Festival in Samarinda (2011) and 1st place as Best Director in Sundanese Drama Festival in Bandung (2013).

Starting from 2011, Mujtaba became a theatre coach in some high schools in West Java. He was successfully brought his students in achieving some local and national theatre performance awards.

Nowadays, Mujtaba becomes a speaker in many theatre workshops in schools and universities in West Java. Moreover, he is also an active writer in writing articles about theatre and theatre critics. In 2012, he wrote a text play titled “Etalase Tubuh”, a play about the reality of consumerism, fashion, lifestyle, sprituality, myth and tale.

Since 2011, Mujtaba also became a facilitator and an initiator in several projects of theatre for empowering. He has done a theatre project with streetkids in Bandung (2011, 2012, 2013) and theatre for empowering with marginal people in Bone, South Sulawesi (2013 – 2014). His last program in theatre for empowering was joining in a Ethics and Aesthetics Workshop in Theatre for Empowering Program (March 2015).

In addition, he is now studying to be a researcher and conserver of oral traditions. His last activity in this regard was involving in the workshop of Improving Oral Traditions Conserver Technical Competency which was held by Oral Traditions Association (on April 2015).

He was also involved in several collaborative processes with artists from different countries. In 2010, he worked with a German artist, Boris Heilscher and produced a theatre perofrmance entitled “Kiamat atawa Dunia Sebentar Lagi Akan Hancur” (Jura Soyfer). In 2013, he’s done a collaborative work with Fredrik Brattberg, a Norway play wright, producing a performance titled “Kembali” (Tilbakekomstene). In 2015, he’s done creative process with Australian artists and musician Sandra Fiona Long, Jodee Mundy and Mal Webb, in poetry performing arts Urat Jagat/Veins of the Universe.

Mujtaba has also involved in several theatre productions, both as an actor or director.
